Martin Luther on the Papacy and Church
"So if a church can only be the true Church of Christ, where is she? - Let us hear what Luther answers to this question. Eleven years after his defection from the Catholic Church, he writes: 'We confess that the papacy was the right scripture, baptism right, right Sacrament of the Altar, Right Key for the forgiveness of sins, right ministry, right catechism. I say that is under the Pope, the Christian right, indeed the epitome of the Christian right and many pious and great saints. "
... And again, ten years later, in 1538, twenty-one years after he left the Catholic Church, he writes: 's is true: the papacy is the true word of God, ... and that we have taken the Scriptures, baptism, sacrament and pulpit from them - what else would we know it? Why must the faith, Christian his church and the Holy Spirit in them. " [1] "
